One of those experts is my friend Tiffany Wilkerson. She taught me that a brand shouldn’t just be some random, funky logo. Even though she creates incredible logos, the best branding advice she gave me was this: for REALTORS, the most powerful brand you can have is your own name.
Think about it. Imagine you're driving down the freeway and see a billboard with two competing brands side by side. Your brain doesn’t know which one to focus on, so it just tunes them out. The same thing happens in real estate. You see "For Sale" signs everywhere, and the brokerage has one brand while the agent has another. It creates confusion.
You can simplify your branding by making your name the brand. Instead of creating another logo, focus on stylizing your name so it's memorable.
The second key to branding is understanding that real estate is a personal brand business. We’re not Michael Jordan or Tiger Woods, but in our world, we are the brand. People hire us, not just our company.
That’s why your photos matter. Clients want to connect with a real person. Your branding should reflect who you are today—not who you were a decade ago.
Ever been on a dating site where someone’s photos don’t match what they look like in person? That’s exactly how clients feel when they meet an agent who looks nothing like their outdated marketing photos. It creates instant distrust.
So here’s what you need to do right now:
1. Make sure your branding is integrated, professional, and cohesive.
2. Consider making your name your brand and work with a designer to stylize it.
3. Update your photos so they’re fresh, accurate, and professional.
