This time of year, a lot of people start thinking about pivoting — making a fundamental change in their business strategy. That's a good idea, because if you want to have that 90 degree turn in your business, you need to think about what you can do to actually make that a reality.
Not just talk about it, but actually make it a reality.
I'm gonna give you five quick points that I've learned over the years that can really help you have a successful pivot in your business and make fundamental change happen for you.
1. Mental toughness
This is underrated, but how many of us have started new year's resolutions with the best of intentions, but then falling apart within 30 days? We’ve all been guilty of that (myself included).
So mental toughness, getting your mind, your body, your spirit in alignment with that decision and saying, I'm not just doing this today or tomorrow or next day or next week, I'm doing it for the entire year. And really committing to that. That's where you really get some strength in the power of the compound effect. Not just doing something for a short period of time, but a little bit of change over a long period of time. That's where you have massive, massive changes in your trajectory.
2. Mapping your plan
Saying you want to change something and knowing the map that you're gonna follow are two different things. Mapping that plan and writing down your new plan of action. What I call your five non-negotiables.
What are you going to do every single day that you're going to say I'm not negotiating? This is what I have to do in order to hit my goals. Understanding that you can open the door to serious opportunity.
3. Move to new opportunities of growth
In other words, you've got to change what you've been doing. If you're just going to accelerate what you've already been doing, I get a little bit of change. But if you really want to have massive change, you've got to say, where do I need to grow? What do I need to change? Maybe you might say, "Hey, I want to start focusing on for sale by owners or for rent by owners or expired listings or absentee owners who are farming a specific neighborhood. Or I want to dive deeper into my sphere of influence, or I want to start incubating people online. Whatever it is, dive in and master that specific area coming into the new year."
4. Measuring your daily performance
Jeff Bezos has told us over the years:
If you can't measure it, don't do it.
He's been a little bit successful with Amazon. So we can model that behavior and start saying to ourselves, how can we measure ourselves more successfully?

But it could be just as simple as pen and paper, measuring your activities every single day, or having an Excel spreadsheet where you're measuring activities. Maybe some of you have a CRM to do that. So how are you going to measure yourself on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis so you can improve performance?
5. Modify your approach
In other words, rapidly adapt to what's working and what's not working.
By being at bat every day and striking out a lot, so to speak, what's going to happen is you're going to figure out what doesn't work — which is just as important as figuring out what does work. Because then you can adjust.
And these micro-adjustments quickly help you dial in. But the way you get there is taking massive action everyday so you can get to the result that you want and figuring out and running the plays that work.
